Madonna… on motherhood, etc.
Madonna sounds off on grieving for her mother, her family,
what it’s like being a controversial figure, and a mother and
wife. My, how she’s grown!
I remember Madonna as an idol we looked up to in high school.
Her absolute disdain for any rule was my inspiration, and
imitating her caused me many, many grounded weekends.
But like the rest of us, she has grown, changed, and learned
new priorities. There is a calm about her that she lacked in
her youth, and I hope there’s a new calm about me, too.
How does she get away with it? I wish I had a stage, and an
excuse. I wish it was my job to act outrageous, dress in slutty
clothes, and thumb my nose at convention… so that I could
say to my family, “Hey, this is how we put food on the table
around here!”
But that’s Madonna’s life, not mine, and probably not yours.
Remember those lace gloves with the fingers cut off?
Man, I loved those…
